scars keloids treatment

Scars & Keloids

Scars come in many forms and it is important to determine the type of scar before initiating treatment. Atrophic or depressed scars are the result of inadequate collagen production during the healing process and appear, as the name suggests, as depressions in the skin. Atrophic scars are more commonly observed on the face. Hypertrophic or raised scars result from the overproduction of collagen during wound healing and appear as elevations on the skin surface. Hypertrophic scars are more commonly observed with chest and back acne.

CONDITION >> Scars & Keloids

After an injury, fibrous tissue known as scar tissue forms as part of the normal healing process. The result of overproduction of this scar tissue is the formation of keloids. A keloid may grow larger than the original injury. Although keloids can form anywhere on the body, they are most commonly observed on the shoulders, chest, earlobes, and cheeks. Risk factors for the development of keloids include darker skin tones, pregnancy, having a family history or being younger than 30 years old. If you have a family history of keloids or if you have a high risk of developing keloids, it is best to avoid piercings, unnecessary surgeries and tattoos.

Treating Scars

Oftentimes, an individual may seek treatment for scars or keloid scars for aesthetic purposes. There is no cure for keloids, however the use of specific treatments can help reduce the appearance. Ageless Beauty Laser & Spa recommends laser and other skin resurfacing methods, to treat and reduce scars – keloids.
