Laser Hair Removal in Surrey and How We Match the Laser to You

Most of our laser hair removal clients come to us after years of razor rash, ingrown hairs along the bikini line, or a waxing appointment every four weeks. What surprises many of them is how much the choice of laser affects both comfort and results. That is the reason Ageless Beauty Laser & Spa runs three different platforms.

This guide covers how the treatment works, how we decide which laser to use, how to prepare and what results look like.

How Laser Hair Removal Works

The laser targets melanin, the pigment in hair. The hair shaft absorbs the light and turns it into heat, which travels down to the follicle and damages the cells responsible for regrowth. Only hairs in the active growth phase, called anagen, are connected to the follicle in a way that makes this work. At any given time only part of your hair is in that phase, which is why treatment is done as a series.

Most clients need six to eight sessions. We space facial sessions about four to six weeks apart and body areas six to eight weeks apart, to match how quickly hair cycles in each area.

How We Choose Between Our Three Lasers

Skin tone, hair colour, hair thickness and the size of the area all influence which platform we use.

Soprano Ice Platinum

Soprano Ice Platinum combines 755, 810 and 1064 nm wavelengths in one applicator, so a single pass reaches follicles at different depths. It heats gradually while the handpiece is kept moving, instead of firing single high-energy pulses, and the cooled tip keeps the surface comfortable. It is our first choice for clients who are nervous about pain and for sensitive areas like the upper lip and bikini line.

Cynosure Elite iQ

Elite iQ has two lasers in one system. The 755 nm Alexandrite is very effective on fine and medium hair in lighter skin, while the 1064 nm Nd:YAG reaches deeper and is the safer choice for darker skin tones. Before treatment, its Skintel reader measures the melanin in your skin, which gives us an objective starting point for settings. Chilled air runs across the skin throughout the session.

Clarity II

Clarity II also pairs Alexandrite and Nd:YAG wavelengths, with a fast repetition rate and large spot sizes. That makes it efficient on big areas such as full legs, the back and the chest. Its tracking system monitors handpiece movement to help keep coverage even, and built-in cooling protects the skin.

Areas We Treat Most

Underarms, bikini and Brazilian, full legs and the upper lip make up most of our bookings. Men most often come in for the back, chest and beard line. Small areas take five to ten minutes. Full legs take closer to forty-five.

Before and After Your Session

Shave the area the day before. Stop waxing, plucking, threading and epilating about four weeks ahead, because the laser needs the hair root in place. Avoid sun, tanning beds and self-tanner for two weeks before and after, since tanned skin absorbs more laser energy and is more likely to react.

Afterwards the skin may look pink, with small raised bumps around each follicle for a few hours. Treated hairs push out over the next one to three weeks and can look like regrowth at first. Use SPF on exposed areas and skip saunas, hot yoga and exfoliants for a day or two.

Who Gets the Best Results

Dark hair on lighter skin responds fastest, but with Nd:YAG we treat a wide range of skin tones safely. Blonde, red, grey and white hair has little or no pigment for the laser to target and usually responds poorly. Hormonal conditions such as PCOS can mean more sessions and ongoing maintenance. Pregnancy, medications that increase light sensitivity and an active tan are all reasons we may postpone treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is laser hair removal permanent?

The accurate term is permanent hair reduction. After a full series most clients have far less hair in the treated area, and what grows back is usually finer and lighter. A touch-up once or twice a year keeps it that way.

How many sessions will I need?

Six to eight is typical. The face, and anyone with hormonal hair growth, may need more.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

Most clients compare it to a warm rubber band snap. Soprano Ice Platinum feels more like a warm massage. The bikini line and upper lip are the most sensitive areas.

Can laser hair removal be done on darker skin?

Yes. The 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength bypasses much of the pigment in the skin and is well suited to deeper skin tones when the settings are right.

Why does it look like my hair is growing back after the first session?

Treated hairs are pushed out of the follicle over one to three weeks, which can look like regrowth. They should come away easily with gentle exfoliation.

Can I have laser hair removal in summer?

Yes, as long as the treated area stays out of the sun and you are not tanned. Areas under clothing are the easiest to treat in summer.

Booking Your Consultation

A short consultation and patch test tell us which laser suits your skin and hair and how many sessions to plan for. From there we build a schedule around your calendar.
